Guest Reviews
Location was perfect (a 2 minute walk from o2 institute and bus stop, 10 from the centre) Very welcome and open staff. Rooms were clean, beds were good and firmly set into the wall, so you don't feel anything with other people in your 'flat' (womans only room). Silent and a good place for a night sleep. Coffe and tea during the day, basic breakfast available.
It was very clean and precentable
Very helpful and friendly staff. The whole place is clean and comfortable.
Super friendly staff, helped me out with a mistake I made in my booking, very accomodating and helpful. The bathrooms (showers) were very clean and well maintained. Whole place was well heated and I felt very comfortable in the pod-style beds, and the big lockers were great to fit all my belongings. The kitchen was well equipped too, in the morning it offered free basic breakfast of fruit and spreads, can't complain! Additionally I used the laundry service which was very fast, and cheaper than what you'd spend at a launderette.
Cleaning
Breakfast had a huge range of marmalades and spreads. Coffee was available. The kitchen was well equipped for basic cooking.
Private room with en suite was perfectly fine for one night. Location is good for O2 Academy. Staff were efficient and nice.
This was my third stay at this hostel. I always opt for the private room. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was basic, but enough for what we needed. It was great to have a kettle in the room and a private bathroom, not many hostels offer that option. The location is very good for access to the coach station and although it may look rough, I felt safe even when arriving and leaving late at night. The communal areas are nice, too and very convenient to prepare meals and drinks and socialize. The main thing that we appreciated was that the place was clean and friendly.
Staff were very good/ helpful and polite. Very clean throughout. Kitchen facility was useful. And basic breakfast was included in our price so that was a bonus Tea/ coffee available all day. Beds in a six bed dorm were fine. Clean fresh linen, Privacy Curtains. Plenty of showers and toilets.
flatulent person in the room with me... Loud snoring... Wish all beds had privacy curtains
Spot on.!
The staff is very polite. Everything is kept clean. There's Wi-Fi, tea and coffee available, a light breakfast, and it's very close to the bus station.

Nothing
Only stayed the one night before getting ani early flight. I experienced this Hostel in 2010 when it was underwhelming but it has been totally revamped. Like the tiered beds - I prefer a bottom bunk which I was allocated but be aware that these a very low so you have to climb out of it. Otherwise this place did the job.
Good value for money for single room
About This Hotel
Located in the very heart of Birmingham, Birmingham Central Backpackers places you right in the city centre, making it easy to access the best of what this vibrant urban hub has to offer. The property sits on Coventry Street, within a short walk of key transport links and shopper friendly streets. The National Express Coach Station is only about a minute away on foot, while the Bull Ring shopping centre is a five minute stroll from the door. This means you can arrive quickly, drop off your bags, and set out to explore with minimal fuss. For arrivals and departures, the location is a clear advantage whether you are arriving by coach, train, or bus, and it puts a wide range of dining and entertainment options within easy reach. This hostel-style property offers a practical, budget-conscious base for travellers who want to sleep soundly at a fair price and spend more time enjoying the city than fussing over arrangements. With 68 rooms to choose from, the emphasis is on straightforward, comfortable practicality rather than elaborate luxury. The design and setup are centered on convenience, making it a reliable choice for those who value a central location and predictable, easy living. Bed quality is highlighted in photos and the overall vibe caters to guests who prefer a simple, social city break rather than a resort style retreat. One of the strongest selling points here is the inclusive connectivity. Free WiFi is available in all areas, so staying connected with friends, family, or work is seamless no matter where you are in the building. The network is one of the recurring positives in guest reviews, contributing to a reliable stay for solo travellers and groups alike who rely on digital access during their trip. The property is actively engaged in delivering value through practical essentials, rather than focusing on a wide range of on-site amenities that might not be needed by a city stay. When it comes to rules and how this place fits different travel needs, there are a few important details to note. The property does not accommodate children, and there is a firm cap on the number of guests per room with a maximum of two. This makes it an attractive option for adults travelling with friends or for solo travellers who want a social, budget-friendly base without family-focused facilities. Check-in times run from 14:00 until midnight, and check-out is between 01:00 and 11:00. The policy also states that there are no cots or extra beds available, and pets are not allowed. The minimum age for check-in is 18. In other words, this is a straightforward, adult oriented option that prioritises value and urban access over family oriented facilities. While the listing does not detail on-site dining or a dedicated bar, the central location means you are never far from a wide array of nearby eateries, cafés, and takeaways. Guests can easily explore Birmingham’s lively food scene without travelling far from home base. For those who value a social atmosphere, the compact but practical layout supports interaction among guests, particularly in common areas where travellers mingle after a day exploring the city. The booking profile paints a picture of reliable performance. The property has earned a strong overall rating, with very good feedback from thousands of guests. In particular, guests highlight the welcoming and helpful staff, which scores highly in recent reviews. The hotel’s location scores well for ease of access to transport hubs and central attractions, while the value and quality balance is consistently praised by budget-minded visitors. The WiFi quality is another frequently mentioned positive, reinforcing the property’s practical strengths for guests who need to stay connected during a city break. This is a smart choice for travellers who prioritise location, budget and straightforward functionality over resort style extras. It is especially suitable for adults seeking a central base to explore Birmingham’s cultural scene, shopping streets, and nightlife with the confidence of reliable connectivity, clear policies, and convenient access to transportation hubs. Families with children may want to consider other options due to the policy around children and the room occupancy limits, but for solo travellers and non family groups, the Central Backpackers offers a welcoming, efficient base from which to experience the city. In summary, Birmingham Central Backpackers stands out for its unbeatable city centre setting, swift access to the National Express station and nearby shopping, reliable complimentary WiFi, and a clear focus on adult guests who want a practical, affordable base for a city break. If you want a simple, well located stay with a strong value proposition and straightforward rules, this hostel is well worth considering for your next Birmingham visit.
