I did a lot of research before booking the room, so I knew that the location was good. The buses run directly to the centre of Edinburgh from almost directly across the road, and they are frequent, making this a great location from which to explore the rest of the city. I would say the room itself was pretty good, but I am not a particularly fussy traveler. I mostly just like to have somewhere comfortable to lay my head after a day of exploring and to be able to have a good, hot shower. There was a fridge and two comfy beds (one queen, one single) in our room, and the bathroom was nice - clean, modern and all in working order. There were complimentary drinks (bottles of water and soft drinks) in the fridge and chocolate marshmallow biscuits on each of the beds, which were nice touches. There was also a coffee machine and pods, which means you can have a coffee before heading out for the day which is always appreciated. From what I could tell, the rooms (at least those above the ground floor) are not accessible. So that's something to be aware of if you are unable to climb stairs. The bathroom in our room was also not an accessible one. The check-in process was okay. Although it was a little difficult to get in touch with the staff upon our arrival (we tried both calling and texting and had to wait awhile for a response), they were apologetic and very helpful once we did get in touch with them. They allowed us to leave our luggage prior to check-in and after we checked out (although it's not in a secured area, so be aware of that and bring a lock/chain if concerned), and they also had no issues giving us a late check-out. I found them to be very helpful and accommodating.

The property is lovely, an historic row house. The interior is suitable for the age of the house. It was super easy to access upon arrival. I loved that we always had hot water for showers etc.

The room was clean and well-equipped, and was cleaned / re-stocked halfway through my stay which I hadn't expected. Checking in and out was straightforward and the cleaning staff who I saw during my stay were friendly and polite.

The rooms were well furnished and staff gave great comments about how to access the property upon arrival. Self check in made it easy for us to run on our own schedule as well. It had a very traditional feel and there were nice amenities in the room as well. The bed was so comfortable and the view of Arthur’s seat was exceptional. The property is within walking distance of the Old town, city centre and also Arthur’s seat.

Location to Royal Mile and Castle and central tourist area of Edinburgh Lovely hosts in a beautiful home with comfortable private rooms

Katherine 9.0

Warm and friendly welcome. Family of four stayed in the family room with three beds - plenty of room to spread out, very comfortable for our group. Second summer in a row visiting family in Edinburgh and we've enjoyed staying at the Gifford House both times. Bit of a walk to castle/royal mile but our focus was on seeing family nearby. Just a stone's throw from beautiful hiking on the Crags and up to Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park.
