Great hostel, very central, but quiet. Placed in the old historic building. I loved the kitchen facilities and all dorms looked tidy and clean. Perfect location.

The nicest staff! The location is amazing considering the price, the showers were big and there wasnt any queue to them (or maybe i just got lucky). You can store your baggage for free!

The location is very convenient — all the main highlights are within walking distance. There are plenty of places nearby to eat and have breakfast. The bathrooms and rooms were clean and well-maintained. The staff were always helpful, even by WhatsApp. They managed my second booking when I couldn’t complete it through Booking.

Never stayed in a hostel before and this made my first experience a pleasant one. Perfect location and I loved the rustic feel to it. Shower rooms and kitchen were amazingly clean and tidy. I stayed in all female room. Although aesthetically the building isn’t as nice as some don’t let that out you off oh and the stairs are jot for the faint hearted. I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend if you don’t want to be right in the middle but a 5 min walk from the crazy hustle bustle. I’d defo stay again.

I had specifically asked for a late check-in, as I was reaching Edinburgh quite late at night. The haystack team was really considerate and did provide me with check-in assistance even at 12am at night. The beds were very comfortable, and both toilets and showers were clean. The common kitchen was well equipped too. The location of this hostel is the best for someone who likes to stay in the heart of the city and doesn't want to spend a lot of time commuting to major attractions.

Location was perfect, right in the popular area of the city across from train and around the corner from bus station. Super clean, super nice personnel, fantastic kitchen, hot water dispenser. Nice guests. Music playing, fun atmosphere.

Such friendly and welcoming staff, special thanks to Kristy! Environmentally aware hostel, all guests were respectful towards each other. I think the hostel has a great deal to do with creating a warm, friendly atmosphere, so Haystack really excelled in this. They were also very considerate of the busy festival weekend making everything super expensive, so they gave out breaky vouchers for free (would be around 5 pounds at other times).
