Lovely friendly reception by the owner John and later his wife with coffee/tea and a piece of cake on arrival. The standard of decorating particularly the paintwork was exceptional . The cleanliness of everything was beyond excellent The bed was a full king size and so incredibly comfortable The breakfast was cooked to perfection and to order in the old fashioned way Ample free parking

A warm welcome from John and Jane made us feel at home. The room was a good size with a comfortable bed and a nice modern bathroom. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. Breakfast was excellent — all fresh and local, served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the gardens. Table service and freshly prepared food made it a lovely experience. Convenient parking was a big plus.

Excellent breakfast for both of us - separately as I had to leave early for a race so John served me at 7:30, much appreciated. Fiona said it was the best breakfast ever. Spotless and very comfy bedroom (room 9). Lovely welcome,

Freshly cooked and delicious breakfast, with fresh coffee and fruit salad. Room was a little small as we had two suitcases but it was ok for one night. If we book again will go direct to the hotel and request a larger room

Great location, beautiful period property and the warmest hosts. From minute one, we were made to feel welcome with John and Jane. No request was too much trouble and we felt at home straight away. John checked on our dietary issues as we arrived and ensured they had things e.g oat milk and vegan sausages for our 10/10 breakfast the next day. Lots of local knowledge and very helpful with recommendations. We loved our stay here and would recommend anyone visiting Torquay stay here! We hope to see you again, Joe, Charlotte and the Bump

About This Hotel

Nestled in a quiet corner of Torquay, Haytor Hotel offers a refined Victorian atmosphere set within its own gardens. The property is located in a conservation area and is only 400 metres from Torquay harbour. Meadfoot Beach is nearby, giving guests easy access to the coast while remaining shielded from busy streets. The combination of garden surroundings and a tranquil setting creates an inviting first impression, a calm retreat after busy days exploring the waterfront and the coastline. Inside, the hotel embodies a balance of heritage and comfort. With 14 rooms, the property maintains an intimate, guest focused feel that suits couples and travelers who value privacy. Each room includes a flat screen digital TV and free WiFi, and the overall presentation keeps a simple, well kept standard rather than every contemporary gadget. The historic exterior and the thoughtful, low key interiors work together to create a relaxing base from which to explore Torquay. Location matters for those who love being near the water. The harbour area is close at hand for strolls, dining, and boat watching, while Meadfoot Beach offers a sandy or pebbly stretch and sea air within a short walk. Guests benefit from the opportunity to enjoy a coastal ambience without sacrificing the convenience of a town centre setting. In short, Haytor Hotel provides the best of both worlds, a peaceful home base with ready access to beaches, harbour life, and scenic coastal paths. Rooms focus on comfort and practicality. The flat screen digital TVs ensure in room entertainment and the free WiFi keeps guests connected on business trips or family stays. The absence of speculation about major renovations in the description suggests a consistently maintained property that prioritizes guest comfort. With 14 rooms on site, guests can expect a personal touch, a level of service that makes returning guests feel at home. The quiet, intimate scale means a slower pace and more attention from staff who know the area well. Food and drink choices reflect a classic British approach with flexibility for travellers. Breakfast options include buffet breakfast, continental breakfast, and English or Irish breakfast, letting guests tailor the morning to their plans. There is a lounge or bar on site, providing a relaxed space for coffee, tea, or a light evening drink. While the menu is not described in detail, the photos indicate comfortable dining and lounging areas that align with a cozy and unfussy breakfast and refreshment routine. Family friendly policies are clear. There is no capacity for extra beds or cots, and children older than 12 years are welcome. The maximum occupancy is two guests, which reinforces the intimate, couple friendly character of the property. Pets are not allowed, and free private parking is available on site without the need to reserve. WiFi is available in all areas at no extra charge, supporting both leisure planning and work connectivity during your stay. Relaxation and gentle evenings are part of the Haytor experience. The garden surroundings invite slow mornings with a book or a quiet stroll after dinner. The lounge or bar area offers a place to unwind, and the proximity to the harbour and Meadfoot Beach means you can enjoy a sunset walk over the coast and then return to your peaceful room. This is a hotel that favours atmosphere and location over bustle, making it an ideal choice for guests seeking a refined, intimate base for a Torquay break. Haytor Hotel is especially well suited to couples seeking a refined, intimate coastal escape. It also appeals to travelers who value a quiet, well located base with easy access to beaches, harbour life and garden surroundings.
