Guest Reviews

Dmytro 8.0

Location, views from buffet

Ivan 8.0

Exceptionally thoughtful staff.

Yuliia 8.0

Our family holiday left us with mixed impressions. We booked a spacious room with a jacuzzi and enjoyed a magnificent view of the Bosphorus. However, using the jacuzzi in the evening was impossible – the hot water simply disappeared, and unfortunately, the hotel staff did not respond to our complaints. Breakfasts were rather disappointing, with very limited options – there wasn’t even any yoghurt. That being said, the hotel's location is absolutely fantastic! All the main attractions are within walking distance, making it a great base for exploring the city.

About This Hotel

Hotel Sumengen stands out as a transformed Ottoman Mansion on the banks of the Bosphorus in Istanbul’s historic Sultanahmet district. The building blends centuries of character with modern comfort, offering a quiet retreat just steps from iconic city sights. The hotel’s renovation preserved architectural details while adding practical features that make a city stay easy. With 27 rooms, the property feels intimate and personal while supplying thoughtful amenities for a comfortable break in one of the world’s great cities. Location matters for a great Istanbul break and Sumengen delivers. Sitting on the Bosphorus waterfront means fresh air and water views while you stroll, and the Blue Mosque is only about 100 metres away from the front door. Guests appreciate the sense of place that comes from being in Sultanahmet, a pedestrian friendly quarter where history and energy mingle throughout the day. Inside the mansion you sense its heritage and the care taken to provide contemporary comfort. The conversion has created rooms that acknowledge the building’s origins but offer comfortable beds, well appointed bathrooms, and practical touches that help travelers feel at home. Some rooms open onto balconies or terraces where you can enjoy a morning coffee with a hint of sea breeze. Views vary from quiet inner courtyards to glimpses of the Marmara Sea. Dining at Hotel Sumengen is straightforward and satisfying. A generous buffet breakfast is served in the on site restaurant and offers a scenic backdrop of the Marmara Sea as you plan your day. The restaurant is also a convenient option for meals after a day of sightseeing. For guests who prefer to walk a short distance, nearby dining options are highlighted as part of the local hotel experience. Family matters here. The property welcomes guests of all ages and keeps policies flexible for cot and extra bed availability. The maximum number of guests per room is four, and children seven years and older are charged as adults at this property. One child up to and including one year old can stay free when using a cot, and up to three children up to six years old may stay free when sharing existing beds. If an extra bed is used, a small surcharge applies. These guidelines help families balance comfort and value when planning a stay. On site you will find a welcoming lobby and reception area, plus a communal lounge and TV room where guests can unwind with a coffee or a quiet moment after a day on foot. The building is comfortable and well organised, with easy access to public spaces and common areas. Free WiFi is available throughout the property, ensuring you stay connected while you explore the city. Relaxing options extend beyond the rooms. The water side setting itself offers a sense of calm that few city hotels can match, especially when you take time to linger on a balcony or terrace or sit in the lounge with a view of the water. Being so close to the Blue Mosque means that the rhythm of the square becomes part of your daily routine, not a distraction, and you can tailor your day to fit in a peaceful moment before or after sightseeing. Sumengen is ideal for travelers who want a historic anchor in Istanbul while still enjoying practical comforts. It suits couples looking for a romantic city break, families seeking space and flexibility, and guests who prize superb location and a charming atmosphere. If you want to stay within easy reach of the action and then retreat to a serene, water side base at the end of the day, this converted Ottoman mansion by the water is a reliable choice. Its intimate size and prized district location make it a smart pick for a city break. From arrival to departure the experience balances heritage with hospitality. The history embedded in the walls, the Marmara Sea view at breakfast, and the attentive staff contribute to a memorable stay. Whether you are visiting for culture, food, or a waterfront escape, Hotel Sumengen offers a grounded, characterful base in one of Istanbul’s most dynamic neighborhoods. Practical details you may want to know include check in from 1 PM and check out by 12 PM, as well as the availability of cots and one extra bed when required. These small details reflect the hotel’s focus on a comfortable, uncomplicated stay for busy travelers and leisurely explorers alike.
