All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, the food was excellent but a bit too much if you had the cheese and biscuits! Lovely walk in shower, that's coming from someone who hates showers!

Quiet location a lovely garden with plenty of seating non-smoking areas (though someone didn’t think it applied to vaping) signs stating No Smoking Here should be updated to include Vaping also. Apart from that incident the three days relaxing at the Hotel Balmoral were idyllic. There is a bus stop outside the hotel driveway with regular service to Torquay Harbour. Across the road the Hotel Osborne is located above Meadfoot Sea Road Beach and is welcoming to non-residents lovely terraces with cafe bar a more lively situation with beautiful views. Along the beach is a flat footpath approximately 1 kilometre which makes a nice promenade after breakfast.

Location was excellent, 3min to the beach and cafe to the right when you walk out the hotel and 10min walk to Torquay town centre turning left from the hotel, with a bus stop just out side if you wanted to save yourself on the walk to town centre. Host was wonderful and very friendly, staff was impeccable, food was excellent and a different menu every evening, if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet then the gardens around the back were the perfect place to relax. I can’t fault the hotel excellent and would urge anyone wanting to spend a few days in Torquay to stay there…

Perched along Meadfoot Sea Road, the property blends landscaped grounds with a terrace that looks out to the sea. It is an inviting choice for couples and adults seeking a peaceful break by the coast, while staying within easy reach of Torquay’s harbour. Free WiFi is available throughout the building, and guests can park on site at no extra charge, adding convenience to a relaxed seaside stay. Stepping outside the doors you will notice the balance between nature and sea air. The landscaped gardens surrounding the hotel create a serene atmosphere for a morning stroll or a twilight moment listening to the waves. A terrace that faces the water invites guests to pause and absorb the coastal views, whether early in the day with a coffee or at sunset with a glass in hand. The setting is designed to feel intimate yet expansive, with plenty of space to unwind while still being close to the action of Torquay’s seafront. The location offers a straightforward path to the harbour, a popular spot for harbourside walks, shops and cafes. The hotel is a comfortable 15 minute walk from Torquay’s harbour area, making it easy to combine a quiet night in with a day of exploration along the coastline. The surrounding area provides a traditional Devon experience, from quiet coves to long sandy stretches within a short drive, and public access to the coast is part of the appeal for guests who want to plan relaxed days by the water. Inside, The Balmoral presents 27 rooms that are designed to provide a calm and comfortable refuge after a day by the sea. The property emphasizes comfort and consistency, with a focus on a restful night’s sleep, clean décor and practical layouts. While the hotel does not advertise extensive renovation details, guests can expect well maintained spaces that feel welcoming and easy to care for. The rooms are configured to suit adults looking for a simple, undemanding stay with a quiet ambience and a good level of privacy. Food and drink play a supporting role in a relaxing Torquay getaway at The Balmoral. The on site atmosphere includes a lounge or bar area where guests can unwind with a drink after a day exploring the coast. The hotel’s dining visuals hint at a focus on well presented meals and a variety of dishes, with references to food close ups and a breakfast option that reflects English or Irish style offerings. While the specifics of the menu are not listed in detail, guests can expect portions and flavours that align with a classic seaside stay and a casual, comfortable dining experience that complements the relaxed mood of the property. The Balmoral is very much a place for adults seeking rejuvenation rather than family activities. The property’s policy framework emphasizes a mature environment suitable for couples and solo travellers who value a tranquil setting by the sea. There is no on site mention of cots or extra beds in the data, and the check in experience is framed around a flexible rhythm that suits guests looking to unwind. The absence of children focused facilities is handled by a clear adults oriented approach that can help guests manage their expectations for a peaceful stay. When it comes to relaxation and light entertainment, the coastal outlook and the quiet pace of the premises are the primary draw. The terrace and gardens offer space to breathe, reflect and simply enjoy the sea air. The proximity to the harbour also makes it convenient to step out for a daytime stroll along the waterfront or to access nearby eateries and shops for a low key morning or afternoon. In terms of wellness, the setting itself acts as a retreat: fresh sea air, garden surroundings, and time to disconnect in a comfortable, well run home away from home. Who is The Balmoral ideal for? This is the choice for adults seeking a refined, low key seaside break. It suits couples celebrating a special occasion, travelers who want a quiet, scenic base from which to explore Torquay and the South Devon coastline, and guests looking for a simple, well located hotel with reliable WiFi and parking and a peaceful garden environment. If you value a location that blends proximity to the harbour with a tranquil retreat feel, The Balmoral offers a compelling combination of sea views, garden serenity and comfortable rooms. For those who prefer a serene, adult oriented atmosphere over a busy family hotel, this Torquay property presents a calm, predictable and comfortable option for a short break or a longer coastal stay.
