Stops on the route

The day starts at Derinkuyu, one of the deepest underground cities in Cappadocia. Descending level by level through its tunnels, you learn how people lived and protected themselves down here. Then you walk beside the river in Ihlara Valley, carved by the Melendiz stream, and see the rock churches along its walls. Selime Monastery is the last major stop of the day: this huge rock-cut complex enjoys one of the most striking views in the region.

Who is it for?

The tour suits anyone who wants to see the side of Cappadocia where nature and history meet. Pushchairs are welcome. Because of the narrow passages in the underground city, it is not recommended for anyone with claustrophobia or a spinal condition.

Practical tips

Ihlara Valley has a stepped descent and a fairly long walk, so wear comfortable shoes and bring water. The underground city is cool even in summer, so a light cardigan helps. We recommend checking whether lunch and entrance fees are included when you book.
