Ihlara and Kaymaklı Green Tour in a Small Group

For those who want to go beyond the fairy chimneys and see the green, mysterious south of Cappadocia, this Ihlara and Kaymaklı Green Tour is a small-group day that takes you deep underground and into spectacular river canyons.

Stops of the day

The day opens with sweeping views from the Göreme Panorama viewpoint. Then you walk beside the river in Ihlara Valley, carved by the Melendiz stream, passing churches cut into the canyon walls. Selime Monastery, at the end of the valley, is one of the largest rock-cut structures in Cappadocia and gives a striking sense of the region's past. To finish, you descend into Kaymaklı Underground City to see its rooms on several levels, ventilation shafts and food stores, and hear how people sheltered here.

What is included

Entrance fees to the museums on the programme, a licensed professional guide, all local taxes and insurance, hotel pickup and drop-off, lunch at a restaurant and parking fees are included. Tips and drinks are extra. You travel in air-conditioned vehicles throughout the day.

Who is it for?

It is ideal for nature lovers and history fans alike, but the walk and stairs in Ihlara Valley call for at least a moderate level of fitness. It is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries. Infants travel on an adult's lap.

Practical tips

Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. The underground city is cool, so a light cardigan is handy even on a hot day.
