A thousand years of history
Benedictine monks first worshipped on this site in the middle of the tenth century, and the current building has stood for over 700 years. Its gothic architecture is a sight to behold, and its stained glass is among the most impressive in the UK. The Abbey has hosted 39 coronations since 1066, including that of King Charles III; seventeen monarchs are buried here, and it was the venue for the wedding of William and Kate in 2011.
Poets' Corner
A place of pilgrimage for literature lovers, Poets' Corner takes its name from the many poets and writers buried or commemorated there, among them William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Rudyard Kipling.
