Guest Reviews
Very good location literally right next to train station in the centre of Inverness. Good value for room. Luggage storage was available and I had continental breakfast included with room.
Location perfect within walking distance of the bus station and train station also great as its near the shops
The location next to the station. The magnificent foyer.
Customer service was excellent from duty manager and reception staff. They helped where they could.
The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Inverness close to the rail and bus stations. Throughout our stay all staff were friendly and helpful and our evening meal in the restaurant was excellent. There was a good selection available at the continental breakfast. The hotel was clean and comfortable throughout.
Just really great hotel - I was a bit nervous before arriving because it seemed too cheap
I like that I can have a single room, with a price that reflects that. Close to railway station for early morning departure. Near to town too.
Food
Beautiful old hotel steeped in history and many of the features inside recognizable from one's childhood. It was great to have a bath with piping hot water. The continental breakfast was also excellent and generous.
The room was clean, a nice hotel but no hair dryer in the room no signal on TV
Spacious main room, comfy bed and otherwise all facilities adequate, if not dated. Room was warm enough, no bad smells, shower was fine and plenty of hot water. Wasnt noisy.
Great location , with friendly staff
The location! Literally off the train with one door, and into the hotel with the next! Beautiful old decor, staff are always friendly and welcoming. Rooms are comfy too.

About This Hotel
The Royal Highland Hotel sits in the heart of Inverness, directly beside Inverness Station on Station Square and just a short stroll from Academy Street. The building carries a sense of history, capped by a grand staircase that was inspired by the Titanic’s famous stairway. From the moment you arrive, the welcome is warm and practical, setting the tone for a relaxed city break. For travellers arriving by rail, the location offers easy access to the town’s shops, cafés and cultural highlights without long searches or commutes. With 84 guest rooms spread across several floors, the hotel offers a comfortable base for a Highland city stay. The interiors convey a traditional character while remaining practical for modern guests. The listing does not specify renovations, but guests typically find well maintained spaces with thoughtful design that supports both rest and preparation for day trips into the surrounding countryside. Food and drink are convenient on site. The hotel operates two restaurants that provide different dining atmospheres, from casual daytime meals to more formal evening options. There is also a lounge or bar where you can enjoy a drink and sit in friendly surroundings. The photos and gallery indicate a range of options from light bites to substantial dinners and a continental breakfast, underscoring a focus on satisfying meals as part of your Inverness stay. Location beyond the station is central to the Inverness experience. You are within easy reach of the town’s shops and riverside walks, with the possibility of quick trips to nearby lochs and the famous Highlands landscapes. The city centre is walkable, and rail connections make day trips straightforward. If your plan includes exploring the Highlands, the hotel provides a well placed base to combine culture, shopping and outdoor adventure without long drives after your arrival. Families are welcome here and the policy supports flexible arrangements for younger guests. The property lists a maximum occupancy of four people per room and notes that cots and extra beds are subject to availability. For younger children there are complimentary options in some cases, and older children may incur additional charges for extra beds. The minimum age for check in is 18, reflecting a practical approach to adult oriented evenings while still welcoming younger guests with supervision. Wellbeing and relaxation come through comfortable public spaces rather than a dedicated spa. A library, several lounge areas and a lively bar provide places to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Free WiFi is available throughout the building, so you can plan itineraries, check opening times for attractions, or share discoveries with friends. While the hotel does not advertise a pool, a stay here centers on atmosphere, service and convenient access to Inverness’s energy and cultural life. Who should consider The Royal Highland Hotel? It is ideal for rail travellers seeking a straightforward, character filled base in a city centre location, couples looking for a refined yet comfortable vibe and families needing practical, flexible arrangements. For guests who value proximity to transport, reliable wifi and on site dining, this hotel delivers. If you want a classic Inverness experience with a Titanic inspired talking point at its heart and two efficient dining options on site, this property offers a confident choice with friendly pricing and a steady level of service.
