Breakfast delightful
This was our third stay at Geckos Rest and it was absolutely excellent as always. Amy and John are so welcoming and lovely hosts, the breakfasts are fantastic and the rooms clean and comfy, and the B&B is in an absolutely excellent location within a 5 minute walk down into the town!
We had more than a pleasant welcome. Room was beyond clean and presented well. The coastal view was great. The breakfast selection was great and nothing was to much trouble.

Room was clean with a beautiful view and easy access to town/beach. The owner was very friendly and attentive.
Everything done really well!
Our stay at Gecko’s Rest was absolutely perfect. Amy and John were so welcoming and went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs, especially at breakfast. I’m gluten free, and every option was suitable for me, which made mornings stress-free and enjoyable. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, and had everything we could possibly need. The location couldn’t be better, just a 3 minute walk into the main town and only 5 minutes to the beach, making it the ideal base for exploring Newquay. They had parking at the front and the rear, and we didn’t struggle for a space once. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would highly recommend Gecko’s Rest to anyone visiting.

Gecko's rest was immaculate - John and Amy's care and attention to little details (like making sure breakfast is perfect!) made it a brilliant stay. The room was spotless and comfortable. I would definitely stay again if visiting Newquay.
The hosts Amy and John were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional and the location was very good . The whole of the establishment was exceptionally clean. Would definitely recommend Geckos Rest
The room was lovely - clean and well-equipped. The bathroom was excellent, including a great shower. Bed was very comfortable. Parking available. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room were excellent, with fresh milk available to collect from a fridge downstairs. Great location too. Everything was a fairly short walk.
About This Hotel
Geckos Rest sits on Mount Wise, just a short walk from the beach and the heart of Newquay. This 4-star retreat blends a quiet, intimate feel with prime access to the coast, making it an ideal base for couples and adults who want to be close to the sea while enjoying easy strolls to the town centre. The location is a clear strength: you can be on the sand in minutes, and the town’s shops, cafés, and nightlife are a gentle 3 minute to 5 minute stroll away depending on your pace. The setting offers the best of both worlds a relaxed coastal vibe and the convenience of a bustling town within arm’s reach. From the moment you arrive you sense the boutique character of Geckos Rest. The eight well sized rooms are spread across a single, low rise building that feels more like a private guesthouse than a large hotel. The property has been prepared to welcome guests looking for comfortable, practical accommodations without the fuss. In room features lean toward modern practicality: comfortable beds, well appointed bathrooms, and thoughtful touches that make a short break feel effortless. Some rooms include a balcony or terrace, offering a private spot to enjoy morning coffee or an evening breeze while taking in a view of the surrounding streets or sea prospects. While renovations are not detailed in the public notes, the property presents a fresh, contemporary feel that suits travelers who value cleanliness, good lighting, and a calm atmosphere after a day of activity on the coast. Food and beverage options are straightforward and guest friendly. Breakfast is a feature you’ll notice in the property’s visual materials and is designed to give you a solid start to a day spent by the sea. The hotel features a dining area where you can choose from a buffet breakfast or an English/Irish style option, depending on your morning mood. In addition to hot and cold choices, the breakfast setup emphasizes convenience for guests who want to get out and explore quickly. For tea and coffee, you will find facilities in the room, as well as opportunities to refresh in the communal spaces later in the day. The presence of multiple dining related images in the hotel’s photo set highlights an emphasis on the breakfast experience and the social spaces where guests can gather before heading out to the beaches or local sites. If you are traveling with a partner who loves to unwind after a day on the coast, Geckos Rest provides several inviting spaces. A communal lounge and TV room offers a relaxed area to catch up on a show, read a book, or simply chat with fellow guests. The lounge spaces are designed to feel intimate rather than expansive, which encourages a sense of quiet and connection that many travelers seek on a coastal break. The property also shows images of seating areas and terraces that invite guests to pause and watch the world go by. For those who work while away from home, the isWorkFriendly designation reassures guests that there are work friendly considerations such as stable WiFi and comfortable work areas when needed. Bedrooms are a strong point for guests who appreciate practical comfort. The collection of photos suggests a consistent level of comfort across rooms, with attention to bed quality and the essential elements users expect in a coastal retreat. Bathing spaces appear to be well maintained, with showers and towels clearly marked as standard features. While the hotel does not advertise a pool, the proximity to the sea and the nearby beaches makes the shoreline the natural focal point of relaxation rather than a resort style pool scene. Floor plans and room layouts visible in the images hint at well organized spaces that optimize both light and privacy, helping guests to settle in quickly after a day on the sands. For families, it is important to note the property’s policies. Geckos Rest operates as an adults only property with a strict no children policy, which makes it an ideal option for couples seeking a peaceful break or adults looking for a quiet venue to work, read, or simply unwind by the sea. The maximum occupancy per room is two, and in line with the policies there are no cots or additional beds available. This clarity helps guests plan accordingly and ensures the stay remains intimate and uncluttered. The surrounding area enhances the holiday experience beyond the room itself. Being a short stroll from the beach means you can easily switch between sunbathing, surfing, or a sunset walk along the shore. The centre of Newquay is equally accessible, offering a range of eateries, shops, and local attractions that provide day and evening entertainment without requiring long transfers. After a day of coastal exploration, returning to Geckos Rest offers a welcoming contrast the calm interior spaces where you can unwind with a drink from the lounge area, catch up on news or a favorite show, and reflect on a day well spent by the ocean. Who will love this hotel Geckos Rest is perfect for couples and adults who prioritise location, simplicity, and comfort over grandiose facilities. It suits travelers who want a refreshing base near both the beach and a lively town centre, and who value free WiFi and the practicality of on site parking. It is also well suited for work trips where a quiet, well connected environment is important. With its compact scale and a focus on essential comforts, Geckos Rest offers a dependable, friendly experience that allows guests to feel at home quickly. If you are seeking a hassle free coastal escape with direct beach access, a strong location, and clear policies that prevent overbooking or over complication, this property stands out as a thoughtful, well run option on the Newquay coast.
