Guest Reviews
Such a cool hostel, great location, lots of fun.
Great old fashioned hostel overlooking Edinburgh Castle so the location couldn’t be better. The bathrooms were kept very clean at all times. My bunk bed was comfortable and my dorm mates were quiet and considerate. Very good value for money.
Great Stay. Friendly helpful folks.
So many great spaces to relax and the staff is amazing. Bedrooms are spacious and this is the best hostel I have been in. Great activities to join in and recommendations from the staff for your stay.
I stayed for one night. It was my first time staying in a hostel and it definitely exceeded my expectations. I felt very comfortable here and the atmosphere was very relaxed. It was nice to have a good mix of people of different ages. I especially enjoyed the choice of different lounge areas that you can either sit and relax in or get some work done on your computer. This hostel has a lot of social events. I watched a movie in their cozy cinema room. There is also a huge kitchen area, which is very handy and was pretty clean. I would happily stay here again!
I am a 57-year-old solo traveler. Although the other travelers were much younger, I felt comfortable and welcomed. The interaction with other guests was very good. I enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. Everyone was trying to keep quiet coming late or going out early. The outings organized by the place were great
Kitchen cleanliness
There is plenty of good thing to be said about that magical place. Let's begin with perfect location of the hostel which is right next to the castle of Edinburgh and of course a few minutes walk from the main street. The place is clean and tidy and the staff was really friendly and helpful. For those of you who are traveling only by theirselves I can reassure you that you are not going to be disappointed because this place hosts events almost every night where you can easily meet new people from all around the world and have fun. This place is definitely worth visiting.
In love with this place, visually & socially. The lounge rooms & kitchens were vast and so thoughtfully decorated, colourful, warm, and the VIEW out the countless WINDOWS was too good. It was really hard to go after just 4 little nights there, truly. Adorable staff, very well organised areas, and decent dorms with crazy views on Edinburgh. I fell so so so in love with the common areas and the overal hostel. I promised myself would be back. Practicity: the dorms had decent sized lockers for every bed that opened with a key that goes with your reservation, i loved that as it is not always that way in hostels. The bathrooms were regularly cleaned, i felt safe using them. The lounge rooms had countless cute corners to chill in, you could always find a spot.
the room needed a bedside lamp, but other than that was absolutely fine
Super cool hostel with plenty of spaces to hang out and meet people – game room (pool table, board games, sofas, tables, coffee corner), a fully equipped kitchen, music room, study room, and more. The dorms are spacious, the beds very comfortable, and the 12-bed room has enough space for everyone. Rooms lock automatically and entrance is checked, so it feels very safe.
The accommodation was perfectly in the city centre, easy to access.
Loved the location, the room was very spacious. Very lively vibe.
I really recommend this place. It is magic as the city. You can feeling the historical atmosphere:)
Castle Rock Hostel blew me away with its friendly & helpful staff, cozy room, comfy beds, views and respectful vibes. I booked it VERY last minute due to a change in travel plans (this was the last place left besides another hostel in Old Town that I had already stayed at and to which I did not want to return). So while it wasn’t by my choice, I really (surprisingly) enjoyed my stay at Castle Rock Hostel and would highly recommend to anyone staying for a value-packed and fun stay in Edinburgh!! When I checked in, I was cranky because it was a VERY steep ascent from the train station and then I a wrong turn - I probably took the worst way possible to get there. And then at check I realized I had booked a mixed room (although it’s not a big deal for me) and the room was located two very long flights up. Then when I finally got there the room key didn’t work but I quickly got a replacement from the front desk. Later on in the evening my storage locker wouldn’t open (with my bag inside) and it had to be pried open but at each step the staff were super helpful and nice about it. Played beer pong that evening which was super nice and actually well organized. My top floor room had the most amazing views of the city. My bed was surprisingly very comfy and had really cute decor. I felt like there were so many toilets / washrooms, everything was clean and overall the other hostel guests were super respectful. This place is a new Edinburgh fave (to my great surprise) and looking forward to staying here on my next visit!
Clean and well maitaied.
Location next to the Edinburgh Castle, and building with vintage style but cool at the same time. Friendly stuff too!
The vibes
everything
Everything was just great. The position is amazing, the hostel is beautiful esthetically, it's perfectly clean, perfectly functional and welcoming with lots of lounges and shared spaces where you can socialize, eat or just chill on your own, including spaces with guitars that you can play, books that you can read, and so on. Bathrooms and showers are great and clean, I never had a problem finding an available toilet or shower. Services are great, you have your own locker, you can get towels or toiletries at reception if you need them, if you need breakfast it's just 4 pounds, if you want to cook your own meals there's all the equipment you need. The staff is so kind and reception is open 24/7. There's flyers all over the common areas with suggestions about things to do, recommendations for bars/pubs/restaurants, and so on and so forth. The activities for hostel guests are great, I only had the chance to participate in one because the other nights I was busy, but the one I participated in was one of the most fun nights I've had in a while. It was so good and the hostel is such a cool place that I actually wish I could've taken more advantage of my stay there! I will definitely come back if I go back to Edinburgh some day. Btw, as a guest of the hostel you also have a 10% discount in a lot of bars and restaurants all over the city! That's cool. Bonus picture: the sight from my bed! Wow.
