We absolutely loved this hotel in Whitby. It felt incredibly English in the best possible way - cosy, charming, and full of character. From the moment we arrived, everything felt warm and welcoming, almost like stepping into a postcard. The atmosphere was lovely, the place itself was very cute and full of little details, and the staff were genuinely kind and friendly - everyone was smiling and made us feel truly welcome. Such a delightful and joyful stay. A really special place that we would happily come back to.

Ian 10.0

Fantastic historical building and really friendly staff, who couldn't do enough for us. The room was great with original features, including slopping floors in our room. There was a raging storm the night we were there so we chose to eat in the resteraunt. The food was second to none. Sadly, we only had one night available to stay on this occasion as we had to move on.

About This Hotel

Bagdale Hall & Annexe sits in Whitby, a small but stylish Georgian townhouse that places you close to both coast and countryside. The property is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, and a mindful stroll will bring you to Whitby Beach in about ten minutes. The town and its dramatic seaside scenery provide a constant backdrop of sea air, cobbled streets, and friendly pubs, making this a refined yet relaxed base for an escape in North Yorkshire. Inside, the house preserves a sense of light and space with rooms that feature high ceilings and generous proportions. The 15 rooms offer a calm, uncluttered aesthetic that complements the historic architecture. Guests will appreciate the bright, airy feel and the comfortable bedding that invites restful nights after days spent exploring the coast and moors. Free WiFi keeps you connected without interrupting the sense of retreat, while the building’s layout creates intimate spaces to unwind. Practical details lean toward ease. Free private parking is available on site, with spaces that are limited and allocated on a first come basis. Check in from 2 pm until 9 pm and check out by 10:30 am, which helps you plan your seaside itinerary with minimal fuss. The property radiates a warm, human scale that suits couples and adults looking for a quiet escape rather than a busy resort atmosphere. Food and drink are part of the experience. Breakfast is shown in multiple photos and provides a comforting start to the day. A lounge or bar area is also featured in the property’s photo collection, suggesting a pleasant space to unwind with a drink after a day by the sea. The presence of alcoholic drinks photos reinforces the idea of a relaxed, social atmosphere that suits couples and friends who value quality service and a tasteful setting. This is not a family resort. Policies state that children are not allowed and the minimum age for check-in is 18. The maximum occupancy per room is two, and there are no extra beds or cots offered in the rooms. That places Bagdale Hall & Annexe in the realm of adults seeking a focused, sophisticated stay rather than a family holiday. The surrounding area adds to the appeal. Being on the edge of a national park means easy access to long walks and nature with the comfort of a historic property to return to at the end of the day. Whitby itself offers maritime charm and a wealth of nearby attractions that appeal to travelers who want a sense of place as well as a comfortable, well designed room for rest. Guests consistently rate Bagdale Hall & Annexe highly, reflecting its strong location, solid comfort, and the small, intimate character of the property. Who is this hotel ideal for? If you are an adult traveler who wants a refined base near the coast and the moors, Bagdale Hall & Annexe is a natural choice. It suits couples planning romantic breaks and friends seeking a quiet, well appointed retreat with easy access to Whitby Beach. The Georgian townhouse atmosphere provides character without sacrificing modern conveniences, and the privately run feel of the property offers a level of personal attention that larger chains often struggle to match. This is a place to slow down, enjoy thoughtful service, and use as a home base for exploring a historic seaside town and its stunning surrounding countryside.
