We went for 1 night after booking the night before, the check in was 3pm, however the hosts said the room would be ready for 1pm which was a great start. When we got there we were greeted and the room was excellent. We were told what to fill in for breakfast in the morning, which was also excellent and was given a parking spot for our car. The location was 5 mins walk into the centre and there was nothing that we could fault with this break away When we got home the next day was called to say my wife had left her purse in the bedside table and that they would post it back to us recorded delivery which was very honest. When we go back to Whitby we will be staying here again.

We loved everything about our 3 night stay at the Grove which included a very handy free parking space We couldnt have asked for any better Our hosts were lovely making sure we had everything we needed for a fantastic stay We stayed in the ground floor apartment that has french doors onto the patio and a massive comfortable King size bed The whole place is clean and welcoming and the hosts made our stay in Whitby a delight We can also recommend both the full English breakfast and the Bagle containing scrambled egg and salmon each of which set us up for our days out in Whitby and surrounding areas We would definitely love to stay again at the Grove when we next visit Whitby

About This Hotel

Set on Bagdale in Whitby, The Grove is a compact yet characterful guesthouse that feels like a home away from home. With just six rooms, it offers a calm, intimate atmosphere where staff know guests by name and attention to detail matters. The property looks out over Pannett Park and sits at the edge of Whitby’s historic town centre, so you can step from a peaceful green view into the town’s lively streets. The Grove is ideal for travelers who want authenticity over a large hotel experience. English and Dutch speakers are welcome, and the team is ready to help with local tips. Free WiFi and free parking at the rear remove common travel hassles, and a credit card is typically required for booking. The minimum check in age is 18. Location matters here. The Grove overlooks Pannett Park and is only a short, level stroll from the town centre, harbour and the ruins of Whitby Abbey. From the front door you can walk to quayside eateries and watch boats bob on the water. The park setting makes a peaceful backdrop after a day of exploration, while the surrounding lanes offer independent shops, pubs and eateries. This central position means you can soak up Whitby’s maritime heritage without long transfers, and return to a quiet guesthouse that still feels part of the town’s vibrant life. Inside, six rooms provide simple, comfortable accommodation designed for practical, relaxed stays. The listing does not specify renovation milestones but presents a well maintained, welcoming interior. The intimate scale helps reduce hallway bustle and contributes to a peaceful retreat after a day by the coast. Guests can expect the basics well cared for, with a focus on rest and a homely atmosphere that suits couples, solo travelers and small groups looking for reliable, no-fuss lodging in a prime Whitby location. Dining options are not fully listed, though a Breakfast tag appears in the photo gallery, suggesting some morning provisions may be available. Those seeking a broader dining programme will want to check current options with the property. If you prefer to dine out, Whitby offers a range of pubs, bistros and seafood restaurants within easy walking distance, letting you sample the town’s famed maritime fare at your leisure. Family friendly policies reflect the small scale of the building. The Grove accommodates up to four guests, with no capacity for extra beds or cots. Children older than six are welcome, while younger children may be restricted. Guests aged 18 and over are charged as adults. When booking, confirm bed configurations and occupancy to ensure arrangements suit your party. The surrounding area offers gentle options for younger visitors, including park strolls and harbour views that pair well with a family city break. Practical and straightforward, The Grove offers free WiFi throughout and free private parking on site, though a reservation is required. Check in is available from 5 pm to 7 pm, and check out runs from 8:30 am to 10 am. The property accepts credit cards and there is no curfew, giving you flexibility to explore Whitby by day and return at your own pace. Pets are not allowed, which helps maintain a quiet, allergen friendly ambience for guests who value cleanliness and calm. Overall The Grove is ideal for couples seeking a central Whitby base with a homely feel, and for travelers who value location and value over a large hotel program. If you want easy access to Whitby harbour, abbey and parkland while staying in a small, welcoming guesthouse, The Grove offers a practical, characterful option that fits well with a relaxed coastal itinerary.
