We didn't have breakfast. We liked the amount of teas and coffees on offer. We really liked the venue and surrounding area. Claire on the phone was great.

The hotel was within easy walking and driving distance of everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast service, although not on site, was only 50 yards away and the food was excellent. The rooms and 'common' areas were exceptionally clean.

Easy check in with friendly greeting. Convenient parking. Clean and comfy room. Breakfast at the local hotel was lovely and reasonably priced with the discount. Myself and my 5 year old Grandson had a lovely stay.

Stuart 8.0

Check-in was friendly and went smoothly. Parking was available close by and parking discs are provided which is a nice touch. As are the biscuits provided in the room with the tea and coffee. The tea and coffee is also the most generous I have experienced with a plentiful supply of UHT milk. Decaf coffee was also available which was a big bonus for me as I can't drink the regular so I appreciated the thoughtfulness behind it.

About This Hotel

The Maynard is a small, family run guest house that captures the personal touch of a true seaside home base. Located in Scarborough, a popular coast resort, it sits on Esplanade Gardens and is surrounded by one of the area’s famed greenspaces. Scarborough itself is known for its coastline and parks, including a remarkable 383 acres of public gardens and green areas that invite gentle strolls, fresh air, and a sense of open space even during busy periods. The Maynard offers a calm alternative to larger hotels, while keeping you well placed for exploring the seaside town. What makes The Maynard appealing to holiday makers is its location and the atmosphere you get from a family owned property. The guest house is positioned for easy access to Scarborough’s waterfront and promenade, so a day by the sea, a walk along the coast, or a family excursion to the nearby gardens can be part of your routine without long drives or crowded surfaces to negotiate. Guests can expect a warm welcome and a relaxed pace that suits both couples seeking downtime and families looking for a simple, friendly stay by the shore. The property itself is compact, consisting of three guest rooms. This small-scale setup means you will experience a more intimate stay with the benefit of direct contact with the hosts, who bring a personal touch to your experience. The rooms are aligned with what guests tend to value in a coastal stay: a sense of comfort, straightforward practicality, and a space that feels like a home away from home. In room gallery photography you can observe the presence of comfortable beds and well maintained bathrooms, with details such as coffee and tea facilities appearing as part of the typical room experience. While detailed renovation notes are not published, the overall impression is of a well cared for space designed for restful nights after a day by the coast. Check in is available from midday until the early evening, and check out is planned for late morning. Specifically, the property accepts arrivals between 12:00 and 17:00 and check out is from 08:30 to 10:00. These times help guests structure a seaside itinerary around a flexible start and a relaxed departure. Free WiFi is available in the public areas, which makes it easy to plan your day or catch up on plans for after you leave the hotel. For those who need a quiet place to unwind, the residents’ lounge provides a comfortable space to relax, read, or chat with fellow travelers in a friendly setting. The Maynard is designed with family friendliness in mind. The property welcomes children of any age, and its policies specify that all cots and extra beds are subject to availability. For families traveling with little ones, it is important to check occupancy details at the time of booking to understand how beds and cots might be arranged. The hotel also notes that the maximum number of guests is four, which helps maintain a calm, intimate environment while still accommodating small groups. The presence of a family run ethos often means a high level of attentiveness to younger guests, and guests frequently value this personal approach in their seaside breaks. Those who value practical conveniences will appreciate the practicalities offered at The Maynard. Public parking is available nearby for a small daily fee, and this makes it easier to explore Scarborough without worrying about on street meters. The property also highlights that WiFi is available in public areas at no extra charge, a feature many travelers consider essential for planning day trips, sharing photographs, or simply keeping connected during a coastal holiday. In terms of dining and beverages, photos in the gallery hint at a range of food related visuals including Breakfast and drinks, which suggests that light dining options and morning meals may be part of the guest experience. In-room amenities include coffee and tea facilities in some rooms, reinforcing the idea of a relaxed, self catered feel that suits families and couples alike. While The Maynard does not advertise a formal restaurant on site, the surrounding area of Scarborough offers a wealth of choices, from casual cafés to traditional seaside eateries, all within a short stroll from the guest house. The guest house’s proximity to the coast and to Esplanade Gardens makes it ideal for travelers who want a simple, straightforward base from which to explore the area. The town’s parkland, sea air, and promenades create a sense of easy leisure, perfect for those seeking a quiet retreat with the option to undertake daytime adventures when desired. The Maynard does not position itself as a luxury resort, but rather as a dependable, personable option that prioritizes comfort, location and a warm welcome. Who is The Maynard best suited for? It is well matched to families looking for a friendly, manageable stay, as well as couples and solo travelers who value a homely environment close to the coast. If you crave a personal touch and a convenient base near Scarborough’s beaches and green spaces, The Maynard offers a straightforward, comfortable choice with the added charm of a small, family run operation. For guests who enjoy a simple, unpretentious holiday in a vibrant coastal town, this guest house delivers a dependable, enjoyable experience.
