Is Sultanahmet a good base for sightseeing in Istanbul?

For first-time visitors, yes: Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace and the Grand Bazaar are within walking distance and the tram links you to the rest of the city.

Is Sultanahmet quiet in the evening?

The day crowds leave in the evening; the area is calmer than Beyoğlu, with terrace restaurants a highlight.

How do I get to Sultanahmet from the airport?

By road from Istanbul Airport or Sabiha Gökçen; a pre-booked transfer makes the journey easier with luggage.

Do historic hotels have lifts?

Some mansion hotels have no lift or only a small one, so check the room description before booking.
