We adored everything

We had the room with the four poster bed. It was lovely and comfy, room was clean. We had en-suite which was to the same standard. I have Ceoliac Disease and there was plenty of options for breakfast, including a cooked breakfast.

We loved the location, a 20 minutes ride from the center. Also loved the neighborhood , lots of parks, small victorian houses. The room itself was spacious and cozy. There is a small pond with lots of different plants in the backyard, an excellent spot for having a cup of tea.

Breakfast was excellent, family run and very helpful with directions trains etc

Great breakfast everyday and quiet room with proximity to public transport

I really enjoyed my stay there. The staff was lovely and cordial, the beds were soft and comfortable with plenty of pillows, which I enjoyed. The neighborhood is quiet and quaint, and well connected to the city centre. Close by is the main road with pletny of food options. All in all, I really enjoyed my stay and would consider going back.

We stayed at Melrose House for 9 nights and enjoyed every one of them! The house has 9 rooms in total, 6 inside the main house and 3 in the garden. Room 6 is on the ground floor beside the office and above the breakfast area, probably the least convenient. Rooms 1–3 are on the first floor, 4–5 on the top, and 7–9 are in the garden. All rooms except room 2 have their own bathroom (room 2 has a dedicated one in the hall). We stayed in room 3, a large and charming room with a bay window and fireplace, facing Lennard Road, which was no disturbance at all despite sleeping with the window open. The location is excellent — just 10–15 minutes’ walk west to Penge East station (trains to Victoria) or east to New Beckenham (trains to Charing Cross). To the south, the High Street offers restaurants and shops; we can even recommend the Great Walk Chinese takeaway despite its surprisingly low Google rating. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast includes cereals, yogurt, toast with marmalade, and Calvin happily cooks a full or partial English breakfast to order. After 9 days it felt a little repetitive as there’s no day-to-day variation, but the quality was good. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the house has a cozy, traditional English atmosphere. For London, it offers exceptional value for money. We would definitely recommend Melrose House — and will gladly stay again anytime!

We had room 2 on the first floor, which was lovely, with comfortable beds, a classic/romantic interior and enough space for our belongings. Everything was clean and fresh. To reach our private bathroom, we had to cross the little hallway. Just a few steps; we got used to it easily. We loved the spacious bathroom with its beautiful tiles, the tub, the bidet ... everything. Breakfast is served by a friendly and experienced chef who prepares beans and eggs, bacon, mushroom and tomato for the guests ... any combination you like. (Great scrambled eggs!). Good connection to Victoria via Penge East station. We had a wonderful stay. Note: We stayed here in 2019 as well, in a simpler but certainly comfortable room in the annexe. As far as I am aware, the rooms are being assigned by the hotel. We'd come back for any of them.

The front desk and owners were communicative, beautiful surrounding garden and lake, nice breakfast. The perfect English inn experience :)

The service was excellent, and everyone was very friendly. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the towels smelled fresh. Nothing was missing – hot water, heating, breakfast – everything was of great quality for the price we paid. I highly recommend this place!

Very good place! Easy to reach by train from the city centre (just 10 min.to station). It is located in a very quiet, private area with nearbly shops and eateries (cool Italian pizzeria). The room is great, with a bathroom and shower. It includes a kettle, tea, milk, and biscuits. The owner is absolutely fantastic - friendly, helpful, and very, very cool. Thank you so much for making us feel like in a real English home!

We had a twin room in a building behind the main house. Room was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the TV didnt work but the owner was so apologetic and while we were at our festival he actually went out and bought a new one. Breakfast was in the main house just across the courtyard. It was cooked fresh to order or continental was laid out. Very nice. Would definitely stay again, shower was lovely and big.

Very comfortable beds, in a very quiet location, a short 15 minute train ride from London Victoria. Perfect for our family, as I didn’t want to stay in the heart of London

This is the second time I am staying in Melrose house. Affordable, comfortable and convenient for families and friends. 20 min train journey from London Victoria to Penge east station and 5-10 min walk from the station. We had two rooms, neat and clean and comfortable. Breakfast was served which was okay (just the usual English breakfast). Few Shops and takeaways at 10 min walk. Overall a great option if you’re on a budget visiting London and want to stay outside the hustle bustle of the city.
