Guest Reviews
Our room was very spacious, with old beams, large comfortable bed, lovely cotton bedding and the room was very clean, also we left a bank card behind, they phoned us asap, big thanks to the staff.
Close to Micklegate. Warm welcome on our arrival and throughout our stay. Parking. Gorgeous room with such a comfortable bed and large bathroom with super hot shower. Excellent home-cooked food.
Friendly staff, great location, nice pub, character property, modern rooms
Staff were brilliant, comfortable room, good size and managed to park at the pub.
Lovely location just short walk into the centre. We were going to a show at the crescent which you could see from our room window Great pub. Food smelt and looked great. Staff very friendly. Room itself lovely great size and clean Will def be staying here again
Great location, close to the city walls. Spacious room. Friendly staff
Great rooms, plenty of character, as one would expect from York. Surprisingly quiet for a pub too, after 2300, easy to get to sleep.
Spacious room, comfortable bed, ample tea/coffee, nicely appointed. The heritage of the building's construction has been treated sensitively. LGBTQ+ friendly.
Comfortable bed in good sized room. Close to city centre - 5 minute walk to city walls. Friendly staff. We had a back room which was quiet. The pub downstairs was busy on the night of our stay due to Race Day and it was a bit noisy during the evening but the noise and music stopped not long after 10pm so we got a great night's sleep.
Really great hosts and easy check in. Comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. What more can you ask for!
Very close to centre. Amazing staff who couldn’t do anymore to accommodate. Food exceptional. Would recommend gluten free if needed and the curry option. Thank you Zoe for everything x
Room very clean and comfortable, excellent location, easy walking distance from railway station and city centre. Plenty of pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walk.
Would class it as original classic hotel/pub. Shows loads of sport and serves hot food too. Great location for the centre of York.
Very comfortable room above a pub but very quiet
The Bay Horse Inn was a bit of a surprise! The exterior and bar area show their rustic age but the room was modern, large and very comfortable! We cannot comment on the food, as none is available on Mondays but there were many eateries nearby. Very convenient location to the train station and York’s old town.
Absolutely great place, really short walk into town And nice friendly and helpful staff.
Old small hotel with lots of atmosphere.
On arrival the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They showed me to my room and explained all the facilities.

Due to the nature of the premises, although we do try our absoloute best to maintain our guests comfort, a level of noise is to be expected due to the Guest Accommodations being located above a popular Public Bar and located on a main road.We do endeavor to keep this reasonable and limit opening hours etc but the historic character of the Inn does mean it is not completely sound proof. We do politely ask guests to be mindful of this before booking with us.
