Guest Reviews
Julie and John were excellent hosts. I stayed in room 9 that has been tastefully decorated and furnished. The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean with all the facilities you needed. My stay was an unexpected stay so I didn't have any overnight things with me. Thus, Julie kindly provided me with a toothbrush and toothpaste at no cost and there was soap, shower gel and shampoo in the room so I was able to freshen up. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen was clean and fresh. In terms of breakfast it was delicious - the scrambled egg was lovely and fluffy just how I like it. If I ever have to stay in Scarborough again I would certainly return and I have no hesitation in recommending The Almar 😍
The hosts were superb. I was only here for one night, attending a funeral the next day. I left feeling like John and Julie were old friends. Fantastic breakfast, excellent value stay.
The location was good within walking distance of the town centre and both bays. The breakfast was excellent. John and Julie were very friendly and helpful.
Lovely comfy bed, great breakfast and ideal location for everything.
Breakfast was excellent and room was very comfortable.
Location great and breakfast was lovely. John and Julie couldn’t do enough to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Nice bar, which was a nice little bonus
Excellent prepared Breakfast plenty of choices all Freshly cooked
Warm reception on arrival. John took our order for breakfast and took us to our room. The house was warm and inviting and the room was clean and comfortable. We took our family back for drinks later and were hosted by John and Julie. Lovely atmosphere. Plenty of drinks to choose from and reasonably priced too. Breakfast was really good. All freshly made by John and served by Julie. It was a shame we were only staying for one night.
Breakfast Excellent quality and quantity, plenty of choice, nice friendly, quick service . Very helpful, friendly staff
Booked for two couples after reading the lovely reviews as we needed somewhere to stay whilst attending a funeral. Rooms are spotless with everything you need and breakfast was excellent. John and Julie went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Thank you for your kindness.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in the UK. Great location, friendly, caring workers (they are the hotel owners :), delicious breakfast and a lot of small really meaningful things (like bars of chocolate in the room, bottle of water, hot chocolate and friendly chats, small "thank you and very welcome back again" presents) made my staying at the hotel unforgettable! Highly recommend!!!

The hotel sits within easy reach of Scarborough’s key highlights, placing you within a short stroll of the pretty Peasholm Park, a popular green space with boating and lawns where families and couples alike can relax outdoors. The sandy beach is also only a few minutes away on foot, making early morning walks along the shore or sunset strolls along the promenade especially convenient. The address at 116 Columbus Ravine puts you in a quiet residential area while still keeping Scarborough’s lively centre within reach. It is the kind of location that suits visitors who want a restful base but still want quick access to the coast and the town’s attractions. Beach and coast experiences Being so close to the beach means you can enjoy easy seaside time without long transfers. A short walk brings you to the sandy stretch that offers space for sunbathing, paddling, and family-friendly beach activities. The surrounding area is well suited to outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate fresh sea air and generous views of the coastline. After a day on the sand or a walk along the headland, you can head back to the hotel for a refreshing drink or a quiet moment in the lounge bar. The proximity to Peasholm Park provides a pleasant alternative for days when you want to combine a park visit with a coastal excursion, one of the many simple but effective ways to structure a busy family or couples’ itinerary. Rooms and comfort The Almar operates eight guest rooms, each designed to offer straightforward comfort and practical space for guests who value value and ease over pretentious styling. The rooms are depicted in the available photography as hosting beds arranged for restful nights, reflecting a calm, uncomplicated approach to accommodation. While the specifics of decor or recent renovations are not published, the property presents a neat, well maintained appearance in line with a traditional seaside guesthouse. Guests can expect clean bedding, reliable lighting, and a functional layout that makes unpacking and settling in effortless after a day by the sea. The overall impression is of a cozy, no-fuss setting where the emphasis is on rest and a welcoming atmosphere rather than opulent interiors. Food and drink options On site, a bar provides a place to unwind after a day of sightseeing or shore excursions. While there is no detailed information about in-house dining beyond the bar, guests have convenient access to beverages in a social, relaxed space. The wider Scarborough area offers range of dining options nearby, from casual pubs to family friendly eateries, which makes The Almar an appealing choice for travelers who value a simple, flexible food and drink plan during their stay. Family friendly and activities The Almar is described as a family run operation and welcomes guests of all ages in its policies. Children of any age are welcome, which supports a family friendly atmosphere. There is a stated occupancy cap of two guests, so families planning to stay together should consider the room count and booking requirements accordingly. The guesthouse’s location near Peasholm Park and the beach makes it easy to plan active days that suit kids and adults alike, including park picnics, beach time, and short walks along the coast. The small size of the property contributes to a personable, intimate feel that can be especially appealing to families who value a quiet, low-key stay with easy access to outdoor activities. Relaxation, wellness and evening entertainment This is not a spa holiday destination, but the setting itself encourages a relaxed pace. After a day by the water or exploring Scarborough, guests can unwind in the bar area with a drink in a comfortable, informal environment. The quiet surroundings and the proximity to open spaces like Peasholm Park further support a restorative experience, ideal for couples or small families seeking a calm seaside break rather than a high energy nightlife itinerary. While dedicated wellness facilities are not listed, the refreshing sea breeze, comfortable rooms, and a friendly staff team combine to deliver a soothing atmosphere suitable for downtime and easy evenings. Who this hotel is ideal for The Almar suits travelers who want a straightforward, welcoming base near Scarborough’s coast. It is particularly well matched to couples and small families seeking a budget friendly option with a good location close to the beach and a well loved park. If you value a personal touch from a family run property, plus practical perks such as free WiFi and free private parking on site, this hotel checks those boxes. It is less suitable for guests seeking luxurious interiors or extensive on-site dining options, but for a simple, friendly coastal stay within easy reach of Scarborough’s main sights, The Almar delivers consistently.
