First time visit and it wont be the last. Firstly, it is easy to find and the location is very convenient being a 5-10 minute stroll to the harbourside. Directions and entry instructions were clear and easy to follow. If arriving by car, a visitor’s on street parking permit is provided which entitles you to use spaces which are only a couple of minutes away, you can also unload right outside in a disc zone. Inside, the flat was spotlessly clean, well furnished (very comfy king bed) and with all essentials and more provided. A lot of thought has obviously gone into the property, furnishings and everything you need for your stay; the communication from the owner was excellent throughut. Highly recommended.

The room was spotless, stylish, and really comfortable. It had a lovely homely feel with thoughtful touches like fresh milk, wine glasses, and a mini fridge. The location was perfect — quiet but just a short walk from the centre and seafront. Everything felt well looked after, and it was clear that a lot of attention had gone into the details.

Emma is an excellent communicator which helped us immensely. We have now changed our preference to where we’d usually like to stay.

We stayed in an exceptionally clean room. The owners had gone above and beyond to supply lots of extra touches such as fresh milk and orange in the fridge. The owner sent us clear access instructions and recommendations in the area. Close to bars & restaurants and a very short walk to Whitby harbour, so location is perfect.

About This Hotel

The Horngarth is a seven room property in Whitby, offering a quiet and refined retreat. The hotel sits at 5 Skinner Street, a short walk from the town’s historic landmarks, with Whitby Abbey listed as just 600 metres away. This proximity to a famous local site gives guests an easy starting point for exploring the area before returning to a calm, intimate base after a day of sightseeing. With a small, carefully managed inventory, The Horngarth emphasizes a peaceful atmosphere and a personal approach to service that appeals to couples and other adults seeking privacy. A key detail for travelers planning a relaxed break is the hotel’s adult only policy. Check-in starts at 15:00 and check-out is by 10:00, and there is a strict no children policy. The property also restricts pets and does not provide space for extra beds or cots. The maximum capacity per guest room is two, which helps preserve a sense of seclusion and quiet throughout a stay. This makes The Horngarth an ideal choice for couples or friends travelling together who value discretion and a low-key rhythm. The character of the rooms is reinforced by photographic evidence of comfortable bedrooms and well-presented interiors. The guest spaces appear thoughtfully laid out to maximize comfort in a compact footprint. While the data does not specify renovation dates, the gallery showcases clean lines and contemporary touches, suggesting a well maintained, up-to-date appearance. In-room amenities highlighted by the photos include coffee and tea facilities and, in some rooms, kitchen or kitchenette setups. This variety offers practical options for guests who appreciate the convenience of self catering or a quick cuppa before a day of exploration. In terms of on-site convenience, WiFi is available in the rooms and is free of charge, ensuring guests can stay connected during their stay. The guest experience at The Horngarth focuses on simplicity and reliability, with essential comfort features rather than a broad menu of facilities. For those who enjoy a little extra privacy, the smaller scale of the property means personal attention from staff and a more intimate feel than you might find in a larger hotel. The hotel’s location supports a straightforward beach and coastal vibe without claiming a resort style pool or extensive resort amenities. The presence of sea view indicators in the image gallery suggests that some rooms offer views toward the water, which can significantly enhance the sense of place for visitors. Guests who value a connection to the sea will appreciate these visual cues and the setting that brings natural light and a maritime atmosphere into the living spaces. Food and beverage options at The Horngarth are described through in-room conveniences rather than an on-site dining program. The availability of coffee and tea facilities in rooms provides a simple, welcoming start to mornings or a comforting end to busy days researching Whitby’s streets. With no mention of a restaurant or bar on site, guests may choose to enjoy Whitby’s nearby dining scene, or simply relax in their room after a day by the coast. This hotel is best suited to adults looking for a calm, uncomplicated stay in a quintessential seaside town. It is particularly well suited for couples seeking privacy and a romantic escape, and for travelers who appreciate a small, well managed property with a strong sense of place. Because children are not allowed, families should look for other options that cater to younger guests. The Horngarth also suits guests who value reliability and consistency in accommodation, especially those who plan to spend time outdoors visiting Whitby Abbey and exploring the local neighborhood. If you are seeking a low key, intimate retreat with a strategic location near one of Whitby’s landmark attractions, The Horngarth offers a refined base for your coastal break. The combination of a convenient town address, proximity to Whitby Abbey, adult only policy, two person capacity per room, and the flexibility of in-room amenities makes this property a compelling choice for a short romantic getaway, a quiet weekend away, or a purposeful stopover while you explore the North Yorkshire coast.
