Absolutely stunning old building steeped in history and the fires are to die for. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and very cosy and warm considering it was below freezing, snow and ice outside. Food in the restaurant is a must

The White Hart & Griffin is located in a historic building from the 17th century and it has kept its historic charm while still being modern inside. The room was very nice and quiet. As it is located in the historic area of Whitby, right underneath the Abbey, it is not far to the towns sights and the harbour, which are all about a 5 to 15 minutes walk away. Because of the location, the house has no parking lot but they give you good directions to free overnight parking or longstay options nearby. The breakfast was very good and served in the wonderfully historic pub area. Staff was very friendly and helpful. All in all a very nice location for spending some time in Whitby, as long as you plan ahead a little for parking your car some minutes away.

About This Hotel

The building itself is a reminder of Whitby’s long maritime story, with walls that echo the town’s history yet interiors that feel fresh and well kept. This is a place for travellers who value location as much as the quality of their room. From the doorstep you can walk to Whitby’s sandy beach in minutes, with the harbor and coast path just around the corner. The town is famous for its rugged shoreline, pale sands, and the energy of its harbour, making it ideal for day trips, cliff-top strolls, and seafood dinners. The White Horse & Griffin puts this mix of seaside leisure and historic charm on your doorstep. In the evenings you can return to a quiet street setting, then wander to nearby pubs or the warm, welcoming lounge area to unwind after a day of exploring. Inside the rooms you will find a comfortable and elegantly furnished space designed for a restorative stay. The property markets itself as a piece of Whitby history with refined interiors that convey a sense of calm. Bedrooms are arranged to feel tranquil after a day by the coast, and many guests appreciate views that look out onto the surrounding streets and townscape. The bed is a focal point in each room, ensuring a restful night and a good start for day trips along the coast. While the specific renovation details are not disclosed, the overall presentation is cohesive, with quality fabrics and thoughtful touches that create a sense of quiet luxury. Food plays a central role at White Horse & Griffin, with the on site restaurant specialising in local fresh seafood. Guests can expect meals that celebrate regional produce, presented in a dining room with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The kitchen and dining areas feel intimate and well managed, with clear attention paid to presentation and service. Whether you choose a casual lunch or a leisurely dinner, the setting makes the most of Whitby’s coastal identity. This is a family friendly property with a flexible approach to young guests.
