Hot Air Balloon over Göreme: One-Hour Flight

There is no better way to start a day in this region than seeing Cappadocia from the sky. This hot air balloon over Göreme carries you for about an hour above lunar-like rock formations and valleys, in the soft light of the early morning.

Before the flight

The adventure starts about an hour before the flight, when you are collected from your hotel. On the way to the launch area your driver hands you a snack pack with cake, fruit juice and more. Once the Turkish Civil Aviation authority gives the green light for the morning, you are taken to the designated take-off point, where you watch the final stages of the inflation before climbing into the basket.

Sunrise over the valleys

Your pilot guides the balloon over the scenic valleys for about an hour. As the sun rises and its golden light falls on the rock formations, and a hundred or more other balloons share the sky with you, you will understand why this is the moment most visitors remember from Cappadocia. The route follows the wind, so every flight is a little different.

Landing and celebration

Back on the ground there is a traditional non-alcoholic champagne celebration and you receive a commemorative flight certificate in your name, before being driven back to your hotel. The flight is covered by full passenger insurance to Turkish Civil Aviation standards.

Good to know

The flight is not recommended for travellers with spinal injuries or pregnant travellers. Photos and videos with a 360-degree camera are not included. The launch site is cool in the morning, so bring a jacket and wear comfortable flat shoes; a small backpack is easier in the basket than a large bag.
